ALBA Block Workers Created in Venezuela

albatrabajadorRepresentatives of unions from Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and Venezuela formally constituted the Workers Block of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America (ALBA), it was learned here today.

In a press release the Socialist Bolivarian Workers Central (CBST, in Spanish) states that around 12 million people participate in this initiative, because besides ALBA signatory countries, observer states are invited to join the block.

The director of the CBST, Jacobo Torres, said that the Bloc created today is, first and foremost, a tool for the defense of political processes and revolutions underway in Latin America.

Secondly, he said, it facilitates to move forward in the consolidation of integration projects that were the basic inspiration of late President Hugo Chavez.

He said that next November 5, as part of the commemoration for the 10th anniversary of the defeat of ALCA (Americas Free Trade Area) and the birth of the alliance, an international solidarity meeting organized by the Bloc of ALBA Workers and the Union Meeting Our America will take place in Venezuela.
