Havana, Cuba, site of the peace talks, July 8, 2015

Communiqué

We welcome and integrally embrace the call made yesterday in Havana by the guarantor and accompanying countries at the peace talks. We welcome the express request by the parties, calling for the urgent de-escalation of the armed conflict, restrict as much as possible most of operations of all types that cause victims and suffering, and intensify the implementation of confidence-building measures, including the adoption of an agreement regarding a bilateral and definitive cease of fire and hostilities, and another one regarding victims’ rights.

We came to Cuba to reach a peace agreement, to end a war that has lasted for more than half a century. Nothing could please us more than to end definitively with the confrontation, the violence, new victims and the suffering of the Colombian people as a result of the conflict.

Attending the spirit of the call made by the guarantors of the process, Cuba and Norway, and the accompanying countries, Venezuela and Chile, we announce our willingness to order a unilateral ceasefire from July 20, for one month. With this, we seek to create favorable conditions to advance with the counterpart in the implementation of a bilateral and definitive cease-fire.

From now on, we request the good offices of the Broad Front for Peace, the churches and the movement Constituent for Peace as monitors of this determination.

Secretariat of the Central High Command of the FARC-EP
