July 11, 2015

US Armed Forse saw 99 suicides for the first three months of 2015, while the number of suicides in the Reserve component declines since 2013.

Ninety-nine members of the US armed forces killed themselves in the first three months of 2015, the Department of Defense announced in a press release.

“There were 57 suicides among service members in the active component, 15 suicides among service members in the reserve component and 27 suicides among service members in the National Guard [during the months of January 2015 through March 2015],” the release read on Friday.

The information was contained in the Defense Department’s Quarterly Suicide Report for the first quarter of 2015.

The report shows the number of active-duty, reserve-duty and National Guard suicides for certain parts of the year.

US military service members and their families can reach out 24/7 to the Military Crisis Line, which gives free and private support to those in crisis and contemplating suicide. The Military Crisis Line is staffed by Department of Veterans Affairs qualified responders.

The data provided by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) is current as of April 20, 2015 and may be updated.
