The Ambassador of Venezuela in Cuba, Alí Rodríguez, rejected yesterday in Havana the United States threats and plans against his country, where the White House seeks to overthrow the Government of President Nicolas Maduro.
At the event in support to the Bolivarian revolution – organized by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) – foreign students, workers of different sectors, solidarity groups and diplomats, including the Ambassador of Bolivia in Havana, Juan Ramón Quintana were all present.
“Many years ago we started a path and we will not give it up to any blackmail from Washington”, said Rodriguez after a march from Casa de las Americas to the monument of the Latin America’s liberator Simon Bolivar.
He went on to say, “While the U.S. spends its time monitoring democracy in distant countries, in its own territory there remains widespread discrimination of minorities Instead of using its budget to solve the problems of Chicanos, blacks, immigrants and the homeless, the Donald Trump administration carries out war plans.”
The diplomat added, “The U.S. uses other geographical areas outside their country as laboratories to test powerful bombs. And they question our democracy, where all citizens can run for office regardless of race or sex. In the so called American paradigm of freedom only those who are wealthy can run.”
Rodriguez concluded, “They use their military might to impose their economic and even cultural hegemony as we have seen in recent times. They seem to not learn that the bigger the challenge that Venezuela faces the bigger is the greatness of its people. We do not want war, we want to live in peace to build our potential for development.”
In his intervention ICAP President, Fernando González, re affirmen the position of Cuba’s support for the Bolivarian Revolution initiated by the late President, Hugo Chávez.
“This fraternal country is going in the right direction, a people that respects itself, will always fight for their independence and sovereignty. Venezuela is not intimidated by military threat from the United States, on the contrary Venezuela stands dignified against those threats and they are not alone,” Gonzalez said.
