In 1998 the United States hireling Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas, who led the controversial Christian liberation movement, scarce in membership and not highly looked upon by other counter-revolutionary groups fomented by the United States, presented a bill titled Project Varela.
Said monster produced on North American territory, pretended to achieve political reforms on the island, especially in the electoral issue.
The project did not lack promotion in Western mainstream media and even former president James Carter during his visit to Havana, gave him support by uttering his speech in the great lecture hall of the University of Havana, broadcast live on Cuban television.
None of the maneuvers designed by the Yankee specialists worked; the root cause was the total lack of the support of the 11 million Cubans who support the Revolution and the social benefits that it provides to the people, even though the scheme of the US-imposed economic war since 1962 is precisely to cut that support.
After 19 years of that complete fiasco, Rosa María Paya Acevedo, daughter of the deceased Payá Sardiñas, received instructions in Miami to dust off the old Project Varela script, with the dream of taking advantage of the upcoming Cuban electoral process when current President Raúl Castro Ruz, will leave his post.
Rosa María resides in Miami as a “political refugee”, although she periodically visits Havana, where she has never confronted repression or dangers on her life, and even keeps her family home in the Cerro neighborhood.
In the capital of the terrorist anti-Cuba mafia, politicians like Marco Rubio, try to direct the policy towards the island using the same means of 58 years of failure, dragging President Donald Trump to take sides with the political line of hostility and confrontation, which far from damaging, benefits the Revolution by showing the true essence that has always characterized U.S. aggression against the people of Cuba.
Rosa María, absent from the trajectory as “opposition” in her father’s life, lack of charisma as a leader and who after the death of her father negotiated a “political refugee” visa with diplomats of the United States Mission in Havana, foreseeing that she, her mother and two brothers would be without the money that Payá Sardiñas received monthly.
As a bargaining chip, she pledged to develop a campaign against Cuba, blaming the authorities for being responsible for the death of her father, which occurred in a car accident when he traveled all over the country distributing money for subversive actions, sent by Esperanza Aguirre of the Spanish People’s Party.
The car was driven by the Spaniard Ángel Carromero, judged in Cuba in front of the Ambassador of Spain and the Consul General, who declared that “the trial was transparent and fair and Carromero the culprit for driving too fast”, situation ratified by the Spanish courts.
The United States in the absence of young counter-revolutionary leaders, bets on Rosa María to convey the message of the existence of an alleged “opposition” in the Cuban youth, but makes a very serious mistake being a permanent resident in Miami and not in Cuba, lacking prestige for negotiating with the death of her father and maintaining a romantic relationship with Orlando Pardo Lazo, a Cuban who ejaculated on the Cuban flag and put it on the Internet.
Nevertheless, they pay for her expensive trips to international conferences, interviews with senior foreign political leaders and is a regular visitor to senators Marco Rubio and Bob Menéndez, accused of corruption, and representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Díaz-Balart, daughter and son of figureheads of the dictator Fulgencio Batista, proves that she is a figure fabricated for the race as part of their campaigns against Cuba.
From the United States she created a supposed movement called Cuba Decide, to create the illusion that there is a political opposition on the island, but again the lack of quorum and support of the Cuban people condemn her to failure.
The downfall of Yankee policy against Cuba is precisely in not accepting that the people decided to walk a different course in 1959 and that neither economic war, nor media have managed to remove the popular bases of support for the Revolution.
The Cubans do not forget the hundreds of terrorist acts executed by the CIA, including the biological warfare that has caused so many deaths, as were the 101 deceased in the explosion of the French ship the Coubre in March 1960, the 73 passengers who died as a result of the bombs placed on a Cuban plane in 1976 and the 158 Cubans who lost their lives in 1981 due to the introduction of dengue hemorrhagic fever by the CIA, an epidemic that still affects the population.
The false accusations of Rosa María about invented repressions to her followers in Cuba are replicated in social networks, facts that nobody sees, nor verifies, but are widely disclosed to build virtual situations, for which in time she will have to clarify before the Cuban courts because they constitute crimes, something also condemned in the United States.
In spite of the media campaigns, the Cuban electoral process will be accomplished as always and the counter-revolutionaries who pretend to propose themselves as delegates of the People’s Power, will not have any support, first because none of them work, they are hirelings of the United States and secondly because those who support a foreign power to maintain the economic war against the people know they will never get a single vote.
History is repeated sometimes as a tragedy and others as a comedy, but the Varela II Project will end up in the same dustbin.
