On the 73rd anniversary of Nakba -known to the Palestinians and Arab peoples as the Catastrophe when they were violently driven from their historic land – large protests took place around the world standing up in support of the right of the Palestinians in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem to live in peace and to condemn the Zionist attack on the Al-Aqsa mosque and the genocidal aerial bombing on Gaza that rages and has now killed 188 people including 55 children.
The Biden Administration has taken the usual imperialist position of cynical neutrality, like it was an uninvolved disinterested player, while painting up Israel as being some kind of victim instead of the brutal Zionist apartheid state that it is. It is important to remember that the creation of Israel was so that the US had a garrison state to protect its interest in the Middle East. While the infrastructure of the US continues its decline and poverty increases, Israel annually receives $3.8 billion in military aid.
In the US alone there were more than 75 protests, including here in San Francisco where over 10,000 Palestinians and their supporters marched in the Mission District. Solidarity activists from many causes came out reflecting the tremendous inspiration that the Palestinian Resistance that has for all people in the struggle for a just world.
