Today Cuban schools opened their doors to receive more than one million 600 thousand students of the General Education System as a new school year begins. From very early in the morning, a parade in white, red and blue could be seen, where anxiety and joy were the protagonists of the encounter between the children of the previous year and the new ones, teachers, professors and students.
The notes of the National Anthem and the words of welcome resounded in the more than 10 thousand educational institutions of the country, marking the start of 2024-2025 school year.
The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cuba dedicates this school year to the 130th anniversary of the fall in combat of the National Hero José Martí and to the 65th anniversary of the transformation process of Cuba. 65th anniversary of the process of transforming barracks into schools, led by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
In the complex context through which the island is passing, with the limitations caused by the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, are assured that the Cuban economy will be able to continue to grow.

In Cuba, great importance is given to the full realization of the right to education of its citizens, as a right and duty of all, which means the real possibilities of learning without distinction of age, sex, race, religion or place of residence. From the capital of all Cubans, to the most intricate mountain village, classes began today, without any child being left without the sacred right to education.
One of the first measures of the Revolution was the eradication of illiteracy and the creation of conditions to guarantee universal and free education at all levels in the country.
