Elon Musk wields his gift from Milei and pronounces “this is the chainsaw for bureaucracy” at the CPAC conference.
Statement from Casa de las Américas following the participation of Argentine President Javier Milei in the Conservative Action Political Conference (CPAC) in the United States.
The crypto-scammer Javier Milei has arrived at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) carrying a brand new chainsaw as a ridiculous gift for his admired Elon Musk. With barely a transition, the trickster has gone from being the promoter of a scandalous fraud to a sycophant of the most notorious representative of the mega-rich club worldwide. We always knew that when that Lilliputian version of Trump cheered for freedom, he was referring to a very particular kind of freedom, but we could not imagine – although expecting decency from the character was expecting the impossible – the audacity of which he is capable.
His days in Washington will be intense: he will try to increase Argentina’s debt with the IMF, he will defend his economic model at the headquarters of the Inter-American Development Bank, he will take part in the closing of the CPAC and he will have his photo taken with the president of the Empire. To some, it may seem like two sides of the same person or an attempt to turn the page and use such protocols to erase the scandal caused by his promotion of that fleeting fantasy called the £Pound, as if there were not a total coherence between the crypto-timer and the outright swindler, whose mission from the government is to squeeze the working classes as hard as possible to make money flow to the rich.
Just when we thought we knew all about this extreme right’s shamelessness, including the thousand and one variants of corruption, Milei goes one step further. It is not enough for him to defend the most nefarious causes and ally himself with the most sinister characters, nor to destroy social programs while flattering the ears and pockets of the powerful. To this he now adds support for virtual thieves who are, after all, tiny avatars of Trump, Musk and the true caste gathered these days in Washington in the shadow of money and fascism.
