Rosa María Payá and José Daniel Ferrer, paid by the US call for a second Economic Blockade against Cuba

Jose Daniel Ferrer: god, country and liberty

On April 9, in a telematic hearing before the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights, counterrevolutionary figures Rosa María Payá and José Daniel Ferrer—financed and promoted by the US government—demanded new economic sanctions against Cuba, in an act of hypocrisy and cruelty that seeks to deepen the suffering of the Cuban people.

Both, known for their history of justifying Washington’s human rights violations and their links to the Miami terrorist mafia, blamed the Cuban government for the economic crisis that the US blockade has deliberately caused for more than six decades, especially since the imposition of 240 new sanctions in the last five years. Their objective is clear: to extend the economic siege from Europe, following Washington’s guidelines, while mercenary media outlets such as Diario de Cuba—also funded by US government agencies—amplify their interventionist discourse.

The cynicism of mercenaries: Denouncing shortages caused by their sponsor

Payá, whose organization Cuba Decide receives direct and triangulated funding from USAID and NED, and whose salary is paid in full by the White House, claimed that the Cuban government “has plunged Cubans into hunger and misery,” omitting that the US blockade has destroyed the country’s sources of income and thus prevents the entry of medicines, food, and fuel. Ferrer, for his part, repeated slogans fabricated in Miami about “political prisoners,” ignoring that he himself has been linked to violent acts and illegal financing from abroad.

Most outrageous is that both are demanding that Europe suspend the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement with Cuba, as well as “stop all financing” to the island, just as it faces a crisis exacerbated by the 243 Trump measures that Biden is keeping in place. In other words, first they support the blockade that is strangling Cuba, and then they call for more sanctions to blame the government for the consequences.

Complicit media: The US machinery of lies

This operation would not be possible without the complicity of media outlets paid by Washington, such as Diario de Cuba, ADN Cuba, Cubanet, and others, which repeat Payá and Ferrer’s accusations without question. Far from being independent, these outlets are part of the media war against Cuba, aimed at justifying new economic aggressions.

Meanwhile, the Cuban people resist, aware that these individuals do not represent their interests, but those of their paymasters. The truth is clear: the shortages in Cuba are the result of the blockade, not the socialist system, and any “solution” that involves more sanctions only seeks to starve a sovereign nation into submission.

International solidarity must stop this infamy

Friendly organizations and governments have denounced the European Parliament hearing as a smokescreen to legitimize imperialist aggression. While Payá and Ferrer call for more punishment, dozens of solidarity organizations are calling for an end to the criminal US blockade, opposing a “second blockade” from Europe and demanding that the mercenaries and their complicit media be unmasked.
