Dr. Issam Khawaja
The International Committee for Peace, Justice, and Dignity demands the immediate release of the eminent pediatric neurologist Dr. Issam Khawaja, who was detained on June 4 as he left the Al-Bashir Hospital where he works.
Issam Khawaja was born on March 8, 1961. He graduated as a doctor of general medicine in Cuba in 1985. He specialized in Pediatric Intensive Care in Cuba in 1989 and in Neuropediatrics in Spain. His extensive experience and ability as a doctor have made him stand out at numerous medical conferences in his country and around the world. He has also given international lectures and seminars on the history of Palestine and the Arab peoples.
Dr. Khawja is also president of the Association of Jordanian Doctors and Jordanian Graduates in Cuba.
This is not the first time that the Jordanian regime has arbitrarily detained Dr. Issam Khawaja. Human rights violations in Jordan have been denounced by organizations such as Amnesty International, among others.
The Jordanian Popular Democratic Unity Party, of which Dr. Khawja is deputy secretary general, issued a statement condemning the systematic violation of the rights to freedom of opinion, expression, and civil association, such as peaceful assembly, enshrined in the Jordanian Constitution.
The seriousness of Dr. Khawja’s current detention is part of the persecution of the most prominent and internationally respected voices against the genocide and ethnic cleansing carried out by the Zionist Israeli regime, the war criminal Netanyahu, and his partner, the United States.
We call on the international medical community, human rights organizations, progressive parties around the world, and people of conscience to demand the immediate release of Dr. Issam Khawaja and all prisoners who denounce genocide and defend the Palestinian cause.
Aberrant acts such as those the world is witnessing in the ongoing genocide in Occupied Palestine wound the conscience of the peoples.
Freedom for Dr. Issam Khawaja and all prisoners of conscience!
