Network in Defense of Humanity

The Network in Defense of Humanity denounces and rejects the pronouncement of the representative of the 1st Congressional District of Florida and member of the Republican Party, Matt Gaetz, who during a hearing of the Armed Services Committee of the House to which he belongs, declared that the president of the United States, Joe Biden, should use military force against Cuba, because of the supposed existence of Chinese military assets in the territory of the sister Latin American country. He said he supported “an authorization for the use of military force to remove Chinese military assets in Cuba” while the committee was discussing amendments to its “National Defense Act”.

Earlier this month, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Carlos Fernandez had already publicly denied false information on the matter published by the Wall Street Journal, in an assumption that the newspaper made without any evidence. Cuba, besides being sovereign, is a signatory of international agreements, and consequently rejects foreign military presence in Latin America and the Caribbean. From this Network we make their words our own: “…we reject all foreign military presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, including that of numerous bases and military personnel of the United States, especially the military base that illegally occupies a portion of the national territory in the province of Guantanamo”.

Latin America as a zone of peace, is not a mere slogan, a threat against one of our peoples is a threat against all our peoples, it is a threat against the world.  It is the custom of the empire to threaten and act against our people. Its decline increases violence and warmongering everywhere.

Cuba has suffered from the interference and invasion of the U.S. since its beginnings, the danger to the island and the continent was warned by José Martí himself. The constant aggression worsened after the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959 and today continues not only with this new threat to apply military force, but also with its daily actions in the application of the longest blockade in history and with the media war that deploys all its modern arsenal against the Latin American people.

This is yet another lie of the empire, another excuse to justify its crimes.
