Argentina: Thousands Show Solidarity at the Palestinian Embassy in Buenos Aires

October 20, 2023

Around 5,000 demonstrators in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian repudiated the Israeli genocide and the complicity of the United States by gathering in front of the embassy of that martyr state in Buenos Aires. There, they made a symbolic embrace and repudiated the criminality of Zionism. While waving Palestinian flags, they shouted slogans against “Israel” and the United States. “Zionist state, it is the terrorist”, “We will return to Palestine, and the capital in Jerusalem” and “Palestinian mothers, receive the embrace of Argentine mothers”, and others.

Riyad Alhalabi a representative of the Palestinian embassy spoke at the ceremony, thanking the demonstrators on behalf of his people for the expressions of solidarity. He told of the genocide that Zionism continues to perpetrate in Gaza, and emphasized that “Palestine will be free just as the Malvinas are Argentine”.

Tilda Rabi, from the Federation of Argentine-Palestinian Entities, spoke, explaining that the Palestinian people are facing superior military forces but they have enough dignity not to retreat. She called for not leaving these people alone, and ended by saying  that it is necessary to repudiate the presence in Argentina of the state water company from Israel, Mekorot, which arrived by the hand of Minister Wado de Pedro, to be installed in several provinces.

A document read at the event stating that, all peoples have the right to a peace that is just and that recognizes the human dignity of every person.

We emphatically repudiate the Israeli government’s statements and refusal of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population. We also denounce the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.

Once again we say, today it is urgent to stop the genocide in Gaza. The continuity of the genocide that was started 75 years ago against the Palestinian people.

After days of unprecedented indiscriminate and merciless Israeli bombardment against the 2.3 million Palestinians imprisoned in Gaza, more than 3500 people have already been killed and more than 12,500 wounded, a third of them children.

We denounce the displacement of more than 300,000 children in Gaza in just 13 days as reported by the executive director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell.

After cutting off fuel, water, electricity and humanitarian aid, Israel continues to massacre the Palestinian population with the support of the US which has vetoed a resolution in the UN Security Council for a humanitarian pause.

From the Committee we strongly condemn the Israeli attack on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza where more than 500 people have already been reported killed. We demand an end to war crimes, according to statements by Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs, this hospital is only one of 20 hospitals in Gaza threatened by Israel.

Again we say that this is an emergency that means life or death for hundreds of thousands of Palestinian people in Gaza. The top priority from a human rights and international law perspective is to do everything possible, urgently, to stop this ongoing genocide.

It is imperative that a ceasefire now, that humanitarian aid be allowed in immediately, that the UN protect the Palestinian population of Gaza now.

We call on our government to demand an immediate halt to this impending genocide, and to demand an emergency session of the UN General Assembly, its Human Rights Council and its Security Council to stop Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian population.
