The Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity rejects the Coup attempts being made and supports peace and the popular will in Venezuela.
Yesterday in Venezuela the presidential elections were held in total normality and with an electoral system shielded against possible fraud. However, the political cadres of the oligarchy, who on several occasions have harassed the people with violence and ignored the results when they lost the elections, are today trying to deploy, once again, violence in a Venezuela that wants peace. Once again they are trying to achieve through a coup d’état what they cannot win through the ballot box.
But the Venezuelan people have memory. In 2017 they lived through the deployment of urban terrorism tactics to which the vast majority do not want to return. The people of Venezuela want peace, stability to continue developing their project of popular dignity and political sovereignty and to continue on the path of economic recovery, circumventing the difficult blockade imposed on them by the same people who today proclaim themselves supposed winners.
Machado who urged people to invade and called for blockades and sanctions against her own people and country showing the desperation of a retrograde elite to return to an exclusive Venezuela, an oil colony of the United States, in which they benefited at the expense of the misery of the majorities, helplessness and lack of protection. To this end, they also propose to declare another self-proclaimed president without having won the elections.
It is shameful that presidents and former presidents of the right and ultra-right, who even financed and supported coups d’état as in Bolivia in 2019, are ignoring the results of a transparent electoral process and are calling for a coup d’état. The interference of the embassies of those countries, used as true platforms for manipulation and coup d’état, is an act that all democrats of the world must reject. At the same time, we are bitterly surprised that part of the political references and the media that proclaim themselves as progressive do not abide by the will of the people expressed in the ballot box and thus legitimize the violence and the coup d’état underway. Voices that in no way sounded with such force when real electoral frauds took place in other latitudes of our region and even the assassination of candidates.
We call on the peoples and democratic leaders of the world to fully respect the Venezuelan electoral process and the will of its people expressed therein, and to stop the attempts to shed blood by calling for an oligarchic coups d’état that will only bring suffering and loss of sovereignty to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
