On Friday, August 8, after 10 hours of deliberations, the Israeli Security Cabinet approved war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan for the complete military occupation of Gaza. While the world demands a ceasefire, the immediate entry of humanitarian aid through UN agencies, and the opening of border crossings, Netanyahu is extending the war for 10 more months, demanding the surrender of weapons by the resistance and the establishment of a “foreign civilian government” that does not recognize the legitimate government of Hamas in Gaza and the Palestinian Authority. Argentine Public Universities Stage Nationwide Protest Over Funding Cuts

More than 50 public universities in Argentina held a 24-hour strike on Monday, combining walkouts with open classes and public forums to demand increased state funding and wage adjustments. In these times when recent memory is eroded, national history is denied and divided into camps, and patriotism is questioned and relegated to a synonym for material well-being and temporary shortages, it is an act of justice to evoke the epic deeds of two young Cubans diplomats, aged 22 and 26, who 49 years ago left us a legacy of courage. In recent weeks, a motley crew of writers has found common cause in attacking Nicaragua’s Sandinista government: Jaden Hong, a high-school student from Sammamish, Washington, who has never visited the country; Jared O. Bell, a former USAID Foreign Service Officer; Barb Arland-Fye, editor of a Catholic newspaper in Iowa; and Gioconda Belli, a 76-year-old Nicaraguan novelist in self-exile. Writing in outlets ranging from The Teen Magazine to the New York Times, they have produced a string of biased, ill-informed pieces that repeat the same well-worn falsehoods about Nicaragua’s elected government. Milagro Sala is one of the first political prisoners of the current Argentinian democracy. The founder of the Tupac Amaru Neighborhood Organization, she led an unprecedented program of social development by the people in Jujuy province: thousands of homes, schools, health centers, and cultural spaces built by workers’ cooperatives.
