Tomorrow the G77+China Summit will kick off in Havana, Cuba, with the attendance of heads of state and government from more than 100 nations. It will be an “austere” summit, as the island’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez recently described. But it will have a high presence of Cuban culture and broad participation of the Cuban people, who have also contributed to its preparation. (more…)

As we all know, the U.S. already has imposed sanctions on Nicaragua, but they haven’t yet brought about the kind of hunger and poverty and suffering that some U.S. policymakers think is necessary to overthrow the popular Nicaraguan government. So there is a new sanctions bill co-sponsored by Marco Rubio and Tim Kaine that will try to further depress the Nicaraguan economy, increase unemployment, decrease revenue for the government’s popular programs so the government will be less popular. The memory remains in the Cuban people for an event that occurred 25 years ago today. On September 12, 1998, five Cuban men were marked forever by the extreme hatred of those in Miami who have not ceased in attacking Cuba. That day they were arrested and their long battle for justice began. (more…)
