Cuba has dawned beautifully these past two days the weather was good and more than one million children of all ages have returned to the classroom. With the first light of day, they can be seen walking down the avenues on their way to school, many hand in hand with their parents or grandparents, and in a feast of white, red, yellow, and blue, all colors of their uniforms. According to State Department sources, there is an operation underway against the Cuban Revolution executed by Orlando Gutierrez Boronat, an ultra-right-winger linked to the U.S. intelligence services and who has just recently traveled to Ukraine. The objective here is to complicate the G77+China summit to be held in Havana to be held in Havana on September 15-16, and to sabotage the presence of President Díaz-Canel in New York for the 78th United Nations Assembly starting September 19. Last month, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited Angola, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa. In the latter country he participated in the summit of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in the capacity that Cuba holds as president of the grouping of G-77 nations and China. The trip was significant both for the historical solidarity between Cuba and Africa and for the possibilities of strengthening relations between the countries of the global south. (more…)

On August 20, Ecuadorians went to the polls to elect a new president just over two years since the previous presidential elections of 2021. Luisa González of the Citizens’ Revolution party topped the poll with 33%. But since no candidate achieved the necessary threshold to win in the first round, the election will now be decided via a run-off election in October. She will face political newcomer Daniel Noboa of the center-right National Democratic Action Party, who surprised political observers by placing second in a crowded field with 24% of votes counted.
