This afternoon, President Nicolás Maduro received at the Miraflores Palace his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, who is on an official visit to the country. The meeting was held in order to fortify binational relations, which since the Colombian president took office have undergone a change that aims at laying the foundations for new ties, characterized by cooperation, respect and solidarity, thus eradicating the vestiges of thorny moments caused by previous ultra-right governments of the neighboring nation. For the last four days at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit there has been non stop protests with thousands trying to shut it down while raising issues from the climate crisis to workers rights and an end to the genocide in Gaza. The APEC summit is a major neo liberal gathering of corporate elites and compliant governments that are here to make deals in dividing up the wealth of the world with little regard to the needs of the vast majority of people who inhabit this planet. The two candidates with the most votes in the general elections, the far-right candidate Javier Milei (Liberty Advances) and the pro-government Sergio Massa (Union for the Homeland), debated for the last time before the vote next Sunday November 19 that will determine who will occupy the Casa Rosada.
