Venezuela / Chavismo Overwhelming Win, a Moment to Celebrate, but Nobody Should Let their Guard Down

By Carlos Aznárez, on October 15, 2017

As they did on July 30 Chavismo has won again in Venezuela, and they won for several indisputable reasons. The first because the elections occurred in a context of absolute peace, without any incidents.  Secondly because the vote was massive, the brave pueblo came out again to vote, as it did in July 30 when voted for the Constituent National Assembly. In a country where voting is not mandatory, 61.4 % of the people exercised their electoral rights. The official result is unforgiving for those who bet on the demise of Chavismo: 17 governorships out of 22 were won by the PSUV, and maybe one more in the State of Bolivar.

In addition, it is an even greater defeat for those who a few days ago were betting on violence because of the strategic victory for the forces of Chavez in the state of Miranda.

This is not a miracle, but instead it is the best demonstration of the civic consciousness and revolutionary ideology that has developed in the people of Chavez and Maduro, those women and men who defeated the violence with their mobilization in the streets and through the ballot box. Participatory democracy is an invincible weapon for them, and they have known how to use it in the toughest of moments as they continue building the Bolivarian Revolution.

The opposition has been left speechless and their godfathers Trump, Luis Almagro and the European Union continue threatening, but today the truth is the only reality. There is nothing that could break the dignity and courage of the Venezuelan people, who has again defeated fascism concealed behind the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) and its international mentors.

To celebrate victory but not to underestimate the enemy.

Defeated again at the local level, the opposition’s only resort is for the support of  international aggression that without a doubt will continue to brew, with the United States as a critical player. On the one hand they will keep the idea of direct intervention on the table and they could be contemplating the idea of direct intervention, or they could put into practice Almagro’s idea of building the unprecedented “parallel government”. Another strategy could be that the Empire could try to take advantage of the victory of the opposition in the Border States with Colombia including Zulia, Táchira and Mérida, to create a base for interventional landing there.

In this context, the corporate media, which in recent days opted for not covering this latest election at all, is this morning already announcing ‘fraud’ and surely in the next few days they will warm the environment again with the twisted argument that “the dictatorship of Maduro” has “invented” this triumph.  The level of infamy that came out this hegemonic media is not surprising, but as it has been in the past their maneuvers and fake news was met with the invincible wall of the Bolivarian people as it did on July 30.

So we celebrate now with Venezuela and in the Great Homeland, but as Che said we can never let our guard down against imperialism, not even a little bit. Because the enemy that now is against the Bolivarian Revolution is the same that Martí, Bolívar, Fidel and Chávez warned us about.
