The Movement of Necessary Journalism (MPN) in Venezuela has recognized 30 outstanding works of journalism with the Anibal Nazoa National Prize of Journalism for 2016. The awards were based on ethical work dedicated and committed to spreading the reality of Venezuela, in the midst of the ongoing international media war against the security and peace of the country.

This year marked the 7th edition of the awards that were decided upon by a jury that included Diana Ovalles Márquez, Kasey Oberto, Ennio Di Marcantonio, Gimena Rojas and Carlos Andrés Pérez, who evaluated more than 70 entries. Their decisions were based on certain parameters such as the proficiency of journalism, the quality of content, proposals, creativity and ethics.

The constant work on the visibility of the Venezuelan reality made by 11 photographers of the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), coordinated by Alex Guzmán, were recognized. Guzman won in the Print Photojournalism category.

In radio, the prize was given to the program Nuestra Charanga, directed by journalist Francis Marpa, dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of culture; in television, the filmmaker Daniel Quintero was awarded for his work Conexión Cucuta, Capítulo Caracas and Nicolas Maduro: The Difficulties of the President, and in print media the weekly 4F won because of its versatility in the use of different journalistic genres.

In the category of group journalism, the award was presented to Luis Enrique Araujo and his team from Venezolana de Television. The cartoonist award went to Lorena Almarza, and in digital journalism the award went to the digital site Our Culture.

Also the MPN acknowledged the work of the Office of Communication Management of the Ministry of Popular Power for Electric Energy (MPPEE), for the campaign “Childhood is not a game, take it seriously”, which received the Institutional Campaign Award.

Argentine journalist, director and columnist Carlos Aznárez received the International Columnist award, for his commitment and communication work in support of the struggles for socialism.

Aznárez is the author of Palestine: A Nation, A People (2006), Hugo Chávez: Revolution and Socialism (2005), Rebels without Land: History of the MST in Brazil (2002), and The Dreams of Bolivar in the Venezuela of Today (2000).

This year another category was introduced called the Anti-Award. This award was created as a way to expose the attacks by outlets of the international media and groups against the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan People. On this occasion it was given to the Provea organization and the newspaper ABC of Spain, which maintains an ongoing campaign of open hostility against the country.

The ceremony for the VII Edition of the Anibal Nazoa National Award will take place on July 2, at ten in the morning on the premises of the Auditorium of the Ministry of the Popular Power for Electric Power, in Caracas.
