The Network in Defense of Humanity, REDH fully repudiates the actions of the foreign ministers of the regional ultra-right governments that today, Tuesday, December 3, met in Bogotá Colombia to continue reinstating the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR) against the brave people of Venezuela.
In those meetings, not only was there talk of continuing to harass the constitutional government of Nicolás Maduro, falsely and criminally characterizing members of his cabinet as terrorists, money launderers and narco-traffickers, while “structuring an intelligence network of all the security and police agencies of the signatory countries of TIAR,” as the old Venezuelan coup deputy Williams Dávila stated.
It is easy to see that this is all about developing a parapolice and paramilitary “intelligence network” that will serve to criminalize, even more, the demonstrators who, in all the countries of the region, have taken to the streets to fight against neoliberal policies in favor of peace and democracy.
With a crude framework of justification that invents a “dictatorship” in Venezuela, the principles of the Doctrine of National Security, under which the civic-military governments of the 1970s were implemented in the service of big capital and imperialism, complementary to the Monroe Doctrine of 1823, which is openly referenced by U.S. authorities who uses as its launching pad its ministry of colonies: the Organization of American States (OAS).
This sophisticated mechanism designed to extend and coordinate the repression of the people and to attack their leaders and supporters, constitutes a dangerous reaction against each and every one of the political projects in the region that have raised peace, sovereignty, regional integration and social justice as its platform.
“It is necessary for Latin American countries to unite in order to isolate those who seek to export this failed system of socialism of the 21st century,” said Francisco Sucre. What this Venezuelan coup deputy does not say is that:
The Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity declares itself in active solidarity with the Constitutional Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, with its officials and diplomatic corps, and with all the militants who have taken to the streets in defense of peace, democracy, social justice and sovereignty.
We trust that, sooner rather than later, the truth and solidarity of our people will prevail.
No to TIAR against Venezuela and against the peoples of Our America!
Long live Our United America!
