Every year, May Day becomes an emblematic date in Cuba, where workers and the people in general take to the streets to commemorate their historic struggle for better working conditions and reaffirm their commitment to the Revolution. Tomorrow this tradition will once again be on display in the streets of the towns and cities of Cuba.

Since its beginnings at the end of the 19th century, May 1st has been a day of vindication and celebration for the people of the island. In Cuba, this date acquires a special significance due to its long revolutionary tradition and the fundamental role played by workers in the construction of a more just and equitable society.

The Origins

International Workers’ Day is an emblematic date in the struggle for labor rights worldwide. This commemoration has its origins in the struggle of the Chicago workers in 1886, who went on strike to demand an eight-hour workday. As a result of these protests, the tragic Haymarket Square massacre took place, where several workers lost their lives.

In Cuba, the celebration of May Day has a long historical tradition that dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, this date has become a symbol of unity and solidarity among Cuban workers, who take to the streets to commemorate their achievements and reaffirm their commitment to the Revolution.

May 1st has been celebrated in Cuba since 1890. Since then, this date has been a day of celebration and vindication for the Cuban people, who recognize the importance of workers in the construction of a more just and equitable society.

For Cubans, May 1st is an opportunity to remember the struggle of our ancestors for better working conditions and to renew their commitment to the Revolution and socialist ideals. In the midst of the economic and political challenges facing the country, it remains a day of unity and solidarity among Cuban workers, who continue to fight for a better future for all.

Delegations of solidarity activists and people who fight against the blockade of Cuba from around the world will also be here to show their support to the Cuban people, their revolution and the workers of the world.
