The destabilization, invasions, coups, and assassinations in those Latin American countries that are inconvenient for the US hegemony have a common instigator: the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The Agency’s interventions in Latin America in the past decades are well known. But what has happened in recent days? Why is the unpunished attitude of US intelligence in the destabilization of the region once again coming to light?
This week, Venezuela denounced the connection of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) based in Colombia in coup actions against the Venezuelan Government. Last Monday, Attorney General Tarek William Saab revealed five conspiracy plans orchestrated by the national ultra-right wing seeking to carry out terrorist actions, the assassination of President Nicolás Maduro, and other insurrection acts.
During a press conference, the Venezuelan senior official explained in detail the violent acts planned since May 2023, unveiled and dismantled by the Venezuelan intelligence forces. Thirty-two people were arrested, convicted, and confessed, and have now provided extraordinary information about the “Brutal Plan” against the great majority of the Venezuelan people and the democratic society.
Saab showed two videos in which the individuals involved gave the details of the criminal actions, in which the military personnel involved were captured in Colombia with the direct participation of the CIA. He added that the individuals also acted in collaboration with the DEA and Colombian Army intelligence services, all based in Colombia.
The irrefutable evidence presented by the Venezuelan government has been met with the total indifference and arrogance of the White House. During a press conference, a journalist questioned U.S. spokesperson Jean-Pierre about Venezuela’s accusations. The official denied the claims and said ironically with a laugh, “I haven’t seen those accusations. It sounds a little bit… well, not even a little bit. It just doesn’t sound credible.”
This Wednesday, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) revealed the names of the downgraded and expelled soldiers. This group of military men are involved in “conspiracies and plans of criminal and terrorist actions to attack the government system,” the FANB stated. Likewise, the institution indicated that the troops took part in the alleged scheme to assassinate Maduro.
“These individuals are not worthy of belonging to our ranks for having broken national and military laws and regulations. This measure is an example of the criminal consequences of their crimes,” FANB concluded.
Washington is relentless in its efforts to undermine peace in Latin America, and Venezuela is a case in point. For several years, the White House’s agenda towards Venezuela has sought every means to overthrow the government of President Nicolas Maduro, overwhelmingly elected by his people twice in the last ten years. They supported the farce of Juan Guaido, applied unilateral sanctions to siege the country’s economy, favored the theft of millions of assets, and continuously supported failed attempts of military interventions and assassinations. While the Guaido as president of Venezuela fantasy has evaporated, the desire to eliminate Maduro as president one way or another has not.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Congressional Research Services Office itself acknowledged on Wednesday that all efforts have been in vain. In a new report, the office assured that sanctions against Venezuela “failed to oust President Nicolás Maduro from power and contributed to an economic crisis in the country.”
“We are not giving up. We will not falter morally. Nothing is more important for the Venezuelan people than to continue defending peace and democracy, at whatever cost it takes,” the Venezuelan government has categorically concluded.
