International Solidarity with the Free Press under Israeli Attack in Gaza and Lebanon

From Resumen Latinoamericano on October 25, 2024.

Ghassan Najjar and Mohammed Reda

The number of journalists, cameramen, reporters, photographers and media workers killed by Israel in Gaza, the West Bank and Beirut reached 175, during the 365 days of contemporary genocide to the territories of Palestine and Lebanon, broadcast live for the first time in history, before the eyes of the world; 396 were wounded and 36 remain detained in Israeli jails in subhuman conditions of confinement.

The Al Mayadeen Pan-Arab Satellite Network suffered the bombing of its Beirut office on Wednesday, October 23. In the early hours of Friday morning, an attack on a residence housing journalists from different media outlets resulted in the death of prominent cameraman Ghassan Najjar and broadcast technician Mohammed Reda, and several wounded.

Wissam Kassem, a cameraman for Al Manar, a Hizbullah TV station, was also killed on Friday.

In September’s escalation in southern Beirut during a bombing of civilians, Hadi Al Sayyed was killed. The murders of reporter Farah Omar and cameraman Rabih Maamari, who had just been covering the situation on the border, were reported to the UN Human Rights Counci

We demand Israel, the United States and their European partners:

  • Respect the lives and physical integrity of war correspondents, journalists and workers of all media and Al Mayadeen, who report the truth to the world from the occupied territories in Palestine and the brutal aggression on Lebanon.
  • We demand respect for the equipment, offices, means of work, property and the homes of press workers and their families.
  • Together with international press organizations, trade unions and journalists’ associations, we will jointly denounce the sustained attack for more than a year on the entire free press.

The hatred and perversity of Israeli Zionism will not be able to muzzle, nor silence the voice of Al Mayadeen and the entire free press.

The murder and persecution of the press is an attack against the right to information and freedom of expression, and is also a crime against humanity.

From the communication platform Resumen Latinoamericano we send all our solidarity and our commitment to continue informing and denouncing with you.
