The general secretary of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC), Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, has called for a national, popular and massive mobilization to celebrate International Workers Day and to reclaim the space of the Plaza of the Revolution for the occasion. Due to the blockade induced shortages these massive demonstrations of popular expression have not taken place in this historic location since 2022.
In a press conference to provide an update on the activities included in the day of celebrations, Guilarte de Nacimiento highlighted the significance of the date, 25 years after the proclamation of the concept of Revolution by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, and of returning to the usual scenario after the difficulties of the current context forced the commemoration to be reformulated on previous occasions.
The secretary general of the CTC asserted that the country’s top leadership is not oblivious to the tensions in which the Cuban economy is operating and their impacts on society, caused in large part by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government.
He emphasized, however, that the everyday resistance and dignity of the working people is a factor for success, to show the world once again that in the face of adversity the overwhelming response of Cubans is to unite around the revolutionary process.

The leader made it clear that the enemies of Cuba are expected to launch campaigns to undermine and defame popular support for the celebration, and in response to this the forceful mobilization of the workers is expected will be led by the Public Health sector, one of the most attacked in the attempt to reduce the country’s sources of funding and to create an unfavorable opinion matrix against one of the main achievements of the Revolution.
That is why from the communicative dimension, it emphasized the strategic value of placing in the mass media stories of lives and other products and audiovisual capsules that bear witness first-hand to the dedication of the workers on all fronts, the main protagonists in the effort to get ahead by their own collective efforts.
Under the slogan “For Cuba, Together we create”, we trust in the capacity of the people to guarantee the widest participation in the parades in squares, bateyes, villages, in all provinces and municipalities throughout the archipelago, he added.
At the press conference details were also released about the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, to be held on May 2, where more than 700 representatives from the five continents are expected to attend.
As part of the May Day celebrations, a wide-ranging program of activities have been put together, including voluntary work days, inter generational meetings, sporting events and cultural events, among other initiatives.
