The Argentine Jewish Appeal has filed criminal charges and called for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the “very serious crimes” committed by the army under his command against the Palestinian people since its invasion of Gaza. He is scheduled to visit Argentina September 7 – 10.
This is the fourth complaint of this magnitude that an organization has filed in Argentine courts against the prime minister, who is scheduled to visit the country between September 7 and 10, and if it moves forward in the courts, it could lead to a major diplomatic scandal that would tarnish the government of Javier Milei.
The first lawsuits were filed by the Association of State Workers (ATE) and the organization Sons and Daughters for Identity and Justice Against Oblivion and Silence (H.I.J.O.S.) at the beginning of the month. They were later joined by human rights organizations, with Madres de Plaza de Mayo Línea Fundadora and Serpaj leading a request for the arrest of the Israeli government official.
However, in the last few hours, it has been revealed that the new case filed by the head of the Argentine Jewish Appeal, Marcelo Horestein, has been assigned to Court 10, presided over by Julián Ercolini, under file number 3365/2025, dated the 14th of this month.
Through its social media accounts, the movement specified that the criminal complaint requests “that, in compliance with the provisions of the International Criminal Court, in the event that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu enters the country, he be arrested in accordance with the sanctions imposed by the court to which Argentina is a signatory.”
“As representatives of an Argentine and Jewish, humanist, secular, democratic, progressive, and pluralistic movement, I believe we are fulfilling our obligation to uphold the traditions of our community by bringing this message to the whole of society through the filing of this complaint, in pursuit of universal justice,” reads the text of the complaint.
