“It is unacceptable that Cuba is on the list of state sponsors of terrorism,” Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva said Tuesday in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly.
During his speech, Lula touched on such important issues as the situation of the Palestinian people, the strengthening of democracy, and climate change, as well as the priorities of Brazilian foreign policy.
He also stressed that “attacks on sovereignty and arbitrary sanctions are becoming the norm” and pointed out that “the democracy of our peoples is not negotiable.”
“There is no justification for unilateral and arbitrary measures against our institutions and our economy. Attacks on the independence of our judiciary are unacceptable. This interference in internal affairs is supported by a servile far right that longs for the hegemony of the past,” he said.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez responded to Lula’s talk and thanked Brazil for its gesture of solidarity on social media and sent the Brazilian people a fraternal embrace.
