“An attack on the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, an attack on the aspirations for regional integration, and a manifestation of the willingness to subordinate oneself to the interests of the powerful neighbor to the north under the precepts of the Monroe Doctrine.” The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, denounced on his X account the Shield of the Americas summit, which is being held under the auspices of the US president.
Díaz-Canel also described the meeting as a “small reactionary and neocolonial summit in Florida,” in which he also highlighted that the right-wing governments of the region in attendance are committed to “accepting the lethal use of U.S. military force to resolve internal problems and maintain order and tranquility in their countries.”
The summit held in Florida, at Trump’s Key Largo estate, was also denounced on social media by Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba. He exposed the true purposes of this servile and neocolonial event.
“The mini-summit convened by the US in Florida with reactionary governments in the region seeks to force them to accept the new version of domination through the Monroe Doctrine and its Corollaries, that is, greater subordination of their nations to the power of the North.
“The only result made public is the signing by the attendees of a servile and dishonorable document that advocates the use of military force, particularly that of the US, as a repressive weapon against criminal cartels in each country and to quell internal and border problems.”
“It is a clear and dangerous setback in the long and difficult process of independence for the Latin American and Caribbean peoples.
It poses a serious threat to peace, security, stability, and regional integrity and is a gross violation of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.”
The summit convened by Trump in Florida
US President Donald Trump opened the “Shield of the Americas” summit in Miami on Saturday, bringing together twelve “Latin American leaders” whom he considers allies of his country.
The neocolonial meeting brought together the presidents of Argentina, Javier Milei; Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz; El Salvador, Nayib Bukele; Ecuador, Daniel Noboa; Honduras, Nasry Asfura; Paraguay, Santiago Peña; Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves; Panama, José Raúl Mulino; Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader; Guyana, Irfaan Ali; as well as Chile’s president-elect, José Antonio Kast; and Trinidad and Tobago’s prime minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Trump assured his Latin American allies in his speech that Cuba is in “its final moments” and that a “great change” will soon come to Havana.
“Cuba is in its final moments, they have no money, they have no fuel. They have a bad regime, which has been bad for a long time,” Trump said.
“We are waiting for the great change that will soon come to Cuba,” he said.
In his speech, Trump also proposed creating “a new military coalition” and called for the cooperation of Latin American nations to “eradicate the cartels.”
The launch of the Shield of the Americas is part of a new U.S. foreign policy strategy called the Donroe Doctrine, presented as an update to the historic Monroe Doctrine of 1823.
This doctrine maintains, in the US imperialist view, that the security of the Western Hemisphere is a strategic interest of the US and its allies, and argues that the presence of foreign powers in the region—especially China—constitutes a threat to regional stability.
Among the countries that are not part of the coalition are Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela.
“The only way to defeat our enemies is by appealing to our military apparatus.” This phrase sums up the current White House administration’s intentions for those countries that do not obey the designs of the new emperor of wars and genocide.
