On March 23, 2026, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar appeared on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom to criticize the visit to Cuba by the Code Pink activist group and other participants in the Convoy Nuestra América, who oppose the criminal blockade that the United States has imposed on Cuba since 1960.
In a desperate attempt to prevent the world from continuing to reject this criminal economic war, Ms. Salazar used mockery as a weapon, claiming that Cuba has become the “Disney World of the communists,” but she failed to achieve her goals, as the world continues to reject the Yankees’ abusive policy, which now prevents oil from entering the island in an attempt to provoke a popular uprising—even though everyone knows that pedophile President Donald Trump is solely responsible for the blackouts Cubans are suffering.
But what the congresswoman failed to mention is that, despite the lack of electricity, all hospitals provide free care to patients, schools continue to hold classes, and even artists keep performing to meet the spiritual needs of Cubans.
The member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee described the U.S.-based organization Code Pink as a bunch of “useful idiots” and mocked them for defending Cuba.
Her annoyance stems from the solidarity and presence of the “Nuestra América a La Habana” Convoy, organized by Progressive International, Code Pink, The People’s Forum, Global Health Partners, the National Network on Cuba and others comprising nearly 700 participants from 33 countries and 120 organizations in solidarity with the island, including several prominent figures such as the Irish rap group Kneecap, Spanish politician Pablo Iglesias of the Podemos party, and former British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
That is why she tried to attack Cuba with the old, worn-out tactics of alleged lack of freedoms on the island—a strategy that did not work for her.
This contingent was joined by a flotilla of supporters who arrived in Havana on various vessels, carrying more donations of food, medicine, and solar panels to alleviate the energy crisis caused by the lack of oil due to the sanctions imposed by Trump.
While the government she represents murders children in Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran, solidarity groups with the Cuban Revolution bring love and selflessly donate what many people send for the people, such as the 6,300 pounds of medicines and medical equipment valued at $433,000.
This woman should be ashamed of mocking a humanitarian effort, while remaining silent about the crimes committed by her government and her calls to invade Cuba, the land of her ancestors.
It seems María Elvira has forgotten her frequent visits to Cuba, where she rubbed shoulders with the highest-ranking figures of the Communist Party and the revolutionary government. Does she no longer remember her fawning interactions with Fidel Castro, whom she called Comandante and with whom she posed for photographs?
Has she erased from her mind the interview she conducted with Luis Posada Carriles—one of the perpetrators of the 1976 bombing of a Cuban civilian aircraft, in which 73 civilians perished—whom she cornered into admitting his responsibility for that criminal act, for which he never paid a price because he had collaborated with the CIA?
Despite her attempts to hide the 8 laws and 244 measures that make up the economic, commercial, and financial war approved by U.S. presidents, and the inclusion of Cuba on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, the world is aware of their existence, and they are primarily responsible for the crisis afflicting the Cuban people. Her colleague Marco Rubio, as a member of Congress, has been present during the passage of some of these abhorrent laws.
Unfortunately for her, many people know that lying is part of her daily routine, and the proof lies in the publications in the U.S. press that demonstrate this.
An extensive article on February 3, 2024, by journalist Fabiola Santiago of El Nuevo Herald, thoroughly exposes her lies:
“Miami legislator María Elvira Salazar should know that facts matter and owes a major apology to the voters of District 27 for blatantly lying to them about her voting record in Congress.”
“On numerous occasions, in press releases, letters to voters, and public appearances, Salazar has misrepresented her ‘no’ vote on millions of dollars in government funding, taking credit for bringing millions in federal funds to the district, allocated by President Biden.”
“The truth: Those projects were funded by bipartisan votes, despite efforts by Salazar and other Trump-aligned Republicans to torpedo Biden’s attempts to address the economy and rebuild the country following the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Journalist Jim De Fede, host of the CBS4 program “Facing South Florida,” presented evidence on February 29, 2024, that contrasted her votes with her claims about her achievements and confronted her with the Biden administration’s government funding bills, which she voted against.
In that interview with CBS Miami, De Fede asked Salazar about her votes against three bills: a general government funding bill for 2023, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act.
In total, those bills represented approximately $3.1 trillion in public spending, part of which has benefited María Elvira’s district. In one instance, which was initially reported by Business Insider, Salazar posed with a giant $650,000 check for a small business development program funded by the 2023 omnibus bill.
María Elvira replied several times that she did not recall how she had voted on the three bills.
She was boasting about the benefits of those three major bills, but in reality she voted against them. When confronted by De Fede (during the live interview) and her lack of ethical standards was exposed, she told the reporter:
“You’ll have to give me more details right now; I need to consult with my team.”
In one instance, Republican Representative Mike García criticized the very same omnibus bill that Salazar and nearly all other Republicans voted against in December 2022, only to boast about the funds he had secured for his district in a brochure sent to his constituents in the summer of 2022.
In an article written by José Muñoz, Spokesperson for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, it states:
“Time and again, María Elvira Salazar has deceived South Florida voters by taking credit for funds she voted against. Instead of fighting in Washington to improve the lives of working people—such as providing well-paying jobs or lowering healthcare costs—Salazar prefers to lie.”
And the piece concludes by stating:
Enough with her deceit! Let’s make sure the people of Miami-Dade know exactly who she is.”
This congresswoman lacks the moral and ethical standing to criticize the solidarity groups that come to Cuba from the United States, because she is well aware of the ignominy she displays, just like her friends.
That is why José Martí affirmed: “Only the morality of individuals preserves the splendor of nations.”
