Carlos Rafael Fernández de Cossío Domínguez, Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, highlighted on his Facebook profile that the increase in electricity generation and the relative easing of power outages in recent days demonstrate the decisive effect of the energy blockade imposed by the United States.
The official stated that “the increase in electricity generation and the relative easing of power outages are a result of the greater availability of fuel in recent days demonstrate the decisive impact of the energy blockade.”
Fernández de Cossío added that the U.S. government “shamelessly claims that the problems of insufficient generation capacity are the fault of the supposed incompetence of the Cuban government. Why then does it threaten coercive reprisals against the government of any country that allows the export of fuel to Cuba from its own territory?”
The deputy minister acknowledged the technological challenges facing the national electrical system, but stressed that “it is impossible to conceal the criminal and ruthless effect of the collective punishment imposed by the U.S. government on the Cuban people.”
Cuba maintains its sovereign right to import fuel from any nation with which it chooses to establish trade relations, without accepting external pressure or coercive measures that seek to limit its capacity for international negotiation.
