We, from the Latin American Coordination of Rural Organizations (CLOC) and La Vía Campesina Brazil, stand in solidarity with the Cuban people at a time when the Revolutionary Government is under threat. Decades of repression and political persecution have plagued the population, while imperialism imposes its destructive grip on the revolutionary struggle of our comrades in Cuba.
This policy has had a profound impact on the lives of the Cuban people, restricting access to food, medicine, fuel, technology, agricultural inputs, and the basic conditions necessary for the country’s development. The blockade directly affects food sovereignty and productive capacity in rural communities.
On May 17, as La Vía Campesina, we launched the international campaign “Against the Blockade! Peasant Solidarity, Agroecology, and Food Sovereignty!”, strengthening actions of denunciation and solidarity with the National Association of Small Farmers of Cuba (ANAP), a member organization from the Caribbean region.
The campaign seeks to expand international solidarity among peoples and denounce the impacts of the coercive measures imposed by the United States, which violate the right of peoples to self-determination and sovereignty. We defend the right of the Cuban people to determine their own path, to cultivate their small-scale agriculture, and to maintain their organizational processes free from imperialist interference.
The escalation of sanctions and blockades against any people represents a threat to the sovereignty of nations and to grassroots-led development processes throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Therefore, we reaffirm:
Globalize the Struggle! Globalize Hope!
