Statement of Solidarity from Network in Defense of Humanity with Venezuela Following the Devastating Earthquakes

June 27, 2026

The Network of Intellectuals, Artists, and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity (REDH), deeply moved and shocked by the unprecedented double earthquake that occurred on June 24, 2026—which has caused irreparable and numerous losses of human life along with severe material damage in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela— expresses its deepest solidarity with every member of the Venezuelan people during these tragic hours.

We join the many concrete acts of solidarity directed toward the people of Bolívar and Chávez, both from the governments of various countries and, fundamentally, from grassroots organizations around the world, as well as from each of the public figures who, through their words and presence, are helping to raise awareness of this painful and challenging reality.

This tragedy in Venezuela is unfolding against the backdrop of recent bombings, the kidnapping of constitutional President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Congresswoman Cilia Flores, and the criminal, cruel, and harmful imposition of 1,080 unilateral coercive measures—misnamed “sanctions.” However, the internal operations of the national executive branch, together with the people’s power, civil society, and national organizations of various kinds, have guaranteed the human right to the comprehensive protection of the people.

The courageous people of Bolívar and Chávez are demonstrating once again that, in the face of adversity, unity in solidarity is the path toward rebuilding a Venezuela where peace is founded on full sovereignty and self-determination, thereby guaranteeing the highest good.

We alert the international intellectual and academic community to the fake news aimed at disparaging the commitment of the government of acting President Delcy Rodríguez to provide an urgent, effective, and comprehensive response to her compatriots, as well as at instilling panic among the people—who are one family—beyond our borders through false announcements of catastrophic natural events to come.

The greatest commitment of the organic intelligentsia of the world’s peoples would be best expressed through a resolute and truly internationalist campaign of solidarity aimed at the immediate lifting—without any external conditions—of the misnamed sanctions against the Venezuelan people.
