Reports from institutions responsible for analyzing this global phenomenon show that the United States’ aggressive maneuvers in the Caribbean were not aimed at drug trafficking: Reports from the UN, the DEA, the European Union, and the World Customs Organization over several years reveal that Venezuela is an “irrelevant” country in terms of drug production and trafficking. So much so that Venezuela has seized 70% of what has been attempted to pass through Venezuelan territory, which does not exceed 6% of the total traffic between Ecuador, Colombia, and the United States. On Saturday, December 6 an estimated 600 thousand persons packed the huge “Zocalo” plaza in Mexico City to celebrate the seventh anniversary of Mexico’s “Transformation.” President Claudia Sheinbaum, after one year in power, gave a powerful speech outlining the progress Mexico is making as well as specific goals, plans and promises for the remainder of her five years in office. Following his earlier threat that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s days are numbered, US President Donald Trump announced on social media he was closing Venezuelan airspace. He then immodestly proclaimed the “Trump Corollary” to the Monroe Doctrine, commending his nineteenth century predecessor for presciently envisioning “a superpower unlike anything the world had ever known.” (more…)
