Critical Thinking: In Brussels, European Fascism Attacks Venezuela

By Geraldina Colotti, Resumen Latinoamericano, September 13, 2025.

On September 11, the day that commemorated Pinochet’s coup d’état in Chile against the socialist government of Salvador Allende 52 years ago, in the European Parliament, what can rightly be considered a new Nazi-fascist (and Zionist) international once again bared its teeth against Bolivarian socialism. With 355 votes in favor, 173 against, and 15 abstentions, MEPs effectively approved a resolution proposed by the Spanish party Vox and the Patriots for Europe group to include the so-called Cartel of the Suns, which the far right claims is led by Nicolás Maduro, on the list of terrorist organizations. The text also included the Clan del Golfo and dissident factions of the Colombian guerrilla groups, the FARC and the ELN, noting that they all pose a threat to regional and international security. A big Cadillac limo with Jersey plates was parked down the block. Few locals in East Harlem even owned cars, let alone new ones. Curious, I asked the street kids what’s up. They casually explained that the mafioso come weekly to collect their drug money. Later I found a playground, which served as a veritable narcotics flea market each night. If a blanquito from the suburbs and some third graders could uncover the illicit trade, I wondered why the officials – who plastered the city with “keep New York drug free” signs – couldn’t do the same. The use of a law that should have no place in contemporary international relations demonstrates the U S. administration’s obstinacy in maintaining the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba intact, ignoring the rejection of the majority of people of the international community and the clamor within the United States itself for this policy to end. On Labor Day weekend 2025, 4,600 people converged in Detroit for the second Peoples Conference for Palestine.  Over three very full days, the multi-dimensional meaning and mandate of the banner, Gaza is the Compass, was explored by activists, scholars, artists, labor organizers and elected leaders from across North America and Palestine.  Although the U.S. denied visas to almost all participants from Palestine, they were able to share their stories and analysis virtually. As PYM (Palestinian Youth Movement) organizer Taher Daleh declared unequivocally at the opening of the conference, “They have tried to intimidate us with smears, with false accusations, and with every single available threat at their disposal to stop this conference from happening. We will not stop.” (more…)
