El Salvador has become notorious on the global stage as a major violator of human rights. Over the past few years, the government of Nayib Bukele stringent security policies—exemplified by the prolonged state of exception initiated in March 2022—have resulted in the arbitrary arrest and criminalization of tens of thousands of individuals, many of whom have no alleged ties to criminal gangs. Nasser Abu Baker, Palestinian Journalist Union
The president of the Palestinian Journalists’ Union, Nasser Abu Baker, has denounced the “atrocities” and violence to which professionals are subjected by Israel. “They kill us to kill the truth,” he said at the 21st Xornalistas de Liberdade de Prensa (Journalists for Press Freedom) Awards ceremony, organized by the Professional Association of Journalists of Galicia in collaboration with the Civil Rights Department of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, which this time hosted the event in Spain. The latest move in Washington has not gone down well with the arrogant Mauricio. Trump’s appointment of Marco Rubio as Acting National Security Advisor alongside his role as Secretary of State has upset the President’s Special Envoy for Latin America. This Friday morning, Yuliannis Blanca Ascanio and her five-year-old son Caleb Tovar arrived in Venezuela on a Return to the Homeland Plan flight. They were among the 168 Venezuelan nationals who returned to the country from the US on Friday, May 9, landing at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in La Guaira state. There, Yuliannis Blanca Ascanio complained to Venezuelan government authorities about the attempted abduction of her son by US authorities. (more…)

The Cuban government has had to come out and deny, once again, the bizarre story about the existence of Chinese military bases in Cuba. The island’s foreign minister reacted on social media to the news that, to the surprise of some, this was reported by CNN, which could well have activated its correspondent in Havana to verify, once again, the absurdity of such nonsense.
