The Obsolescence of the UN

By Hedelberto López Blanch on March 19, 2026

A few months ago, I wrote an article about planned obsolescence, a key pillar of capitalism, as manufacturers create products that expire over time so that consumers will buy newer ones—and that is practically what is happening with the UN, which, after 80 years, needs a makeover because it has already become obsolete. March 22 Elections and Lessons from Bolivia: Only Lawfare Prevents the Return of Indigenous Democracy

By Cindy Forster on March 22, 2026

Leonardo Loza, center, candidate for governor of the department of Cochabamba, in  the heart of the most organized left in Bolivia.

Bolivia’s capitalist elites are losing their grip this week in their efforts to crush socialist candidates in “sub-national” elections to be held on March 20.  Socialists, most of them Indigenous and campesino, have been elected in assemblies to run as candidates at all levels of local government. The rightwing is terrified of competing with the poor in elections, and to avoid that eventuality, it is illegitimately disqualifying leftist candidates and their parties. The twentieth-century oligarchy won the presidency last November in exactly this fashion, via illicit court rulings. (more…)

From Gaza to Cuba: Solidarity by Sea as a Form of Resistance

By Alejandra Garcia on March 20, 2026

Che in Gaza in 1959

Ernesto Che Guevara traveled from Cuba to the Gaza Strip in 1959. A photograph immortalizes that unprecedented moment. He wore the olive drab uniform, the same from the struggles in the Sierra Maestra, which led to the victory of the Barbudos rebels in January of that year. At his side stood Palestinian leaders; in the background, a land marked by resistance and dignity. (more…)

The West’s Technological War Against the People

By Hedelberto López Blanch on March 19, 2026 from Havana

A vast and deep-seated cognitive war is being waged by major U.S. and Western information technology (IT) and communication technology (ICT) companies to change minds and distort events in order to portray the oppressors of the people as the good guys and the oppressed as the guilty ones. At the same time, they carry out cyberattacks against the critical infrastructure of other countries to create confusion. (more…)

Chile: Will President Kast Pardon One of Pinochet’s Executioners?

March 16, 2026

Miguel Krassnoff

The issue revolves around Miguel Krassnoff, a former high-ranking officer of the Chilean secret police (DINA), sentenced to over a thousand years in prison for crimes against humanity. On March 4, the right wing began pushing a bill in parliament that could allow for the pardon of notorious murderers like Krassnoff, a process that could extend until mid March, as Kast settles into his office. The Shield of Monroism: The Angry Tide and the Neo-Colonial Order in Latin America

By Carlos Ron on March 16, 2026

March 7, 2026, at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, Donald Trump inaugurated the “Shield of the Americas” summit, convening right-wing leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean’s “Angry Tide” around what he called a ‘counter-cartel coalition’. Washington’s recipe was stated plainly: “The only way to defeat these enemies is by unleashing the power of our military.” Monroism is on the offensive, and the Angry Tide has become its shield—not against cartels, but against people-centered projects of national sovereignty. Cuba Will Survive: A Diary

By Vijay Prashad on March 15, 2026

The morning of my departure from José Martí Airport, named after the father of the nation, I hugged everybody: the woman who checked me in, the man who stamped my passport, the ground staff. I had hugged all my friends tightly the previous day, my tears fighting for the right to stream down my face. It felt as though, through these hugs, I wanted to somehow transmit my trepidation about what could possibly happen to Cuba, the Cubans, the Cuban Revolution – all of it – because of the madness of Donald Trump. Why the US Wants to Destroy Cuba

By Pablo Meriguet on March 15, 2026

The administration of US President Donald Trump has launched a series of military and political offensives in the last several months in different corners of the globe. The goals of Washington’s various military and diplomatic actions have been the subject of heated debate. Are they aimed at reestablishing a threatened hegemony? Do they strive to secure a unipolar position that was never really in danger? Or are these the dying (and most violent) breaths of an empire in decline? (more…)
