February 24, 2022, the date of the start of the war in Ukraine, marks the world’s entry into a new geopolitical age. We are facing a totally new situation in Europe since the end of World War II. Although there have been many important events on this continent since 1945, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the implosion of the Soviet Union and the wars in the former Yugoslavia, we have never witnessed a historical event of such magnitude, changing the planetary reality and the world order. Between Cynicism and Revenge

Nothing is more frightening than to see U.S. officials discussing international law and war crimes. Live and on air, Harris Faulkner, host of Fox News, has told Condoleezza Rice that “when you invade a sovereign nation, that is a war crime”. The former head of U.S. diplomacy, one of the architects of the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, not only nodded in agreement, but responded, “It certainly goes against every principle of international law and international order.” (more…)

The last time I paraded through the Plaza de la Revolución on May Day was in 2019.  I remember the sound that day from the clanging of a handbell, beaten by a very red-eyed man, who probably had been sleepless for hours, waiting for the march to begin. He was walking along with other members of a marching band, which was advancing through the crowd playing a Conga, a very Cuban rhythm that makes you dance for good. (more…)

Costa Rica: A Paradise for the Few after First Round of Elections

By Giovanni Beluche V. on March 3, 2022 from San José, Costa Rica

It seems that hard times indeed are coming for the working class, micro- and small-business owners, and small-scale farmers of Costa Rica after the first round of presidential voting on February 6. The two candidates that will go on to the runoff, José María Figueres Olsen and Rodrigo Chaves, have clearly neoliberal proposals: more free trade, more taxes on wage earners, and more cuts to university budgets and social spending. Cuba: Solidarity is the Name of Love among Peoples; We cannot Live by War

By Carmen Diniz on March 5, 2022

capitalism does not work, life is something else

As the world follows anxiously the developments in the conflict in Europe, our feelings are of frustration with humanity.  The amount of information that constantly reaches us tends to confuse rather than to explain, and more so when it is not possible to distinguish between false and true news. The Causes of the Conflict in Ukraine Beyond Russian Interests, part 2

Victoria Nuland hands out cookies to nationalists in Ukraine

As was shown in the first part of this research, Ukraine is a country with nationality-related problems, which have very strong historical foundations. The integration of two different social groups within the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was a catalyst for a national conflict that was kept relatively under control during the Soviet period. Ukraine and Washington’s Hypocrisy

By Angel Guerra Cabrera on March 3, 2022

Ukranian neo nazis

The February 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine marks a turning point in that country’s contemporary history, in which Washington comes to occupy a preeminent position. From that moment on, far-right forces, inspired by Stepan Bandera’s ultra-nationalism and sympathy for Nazism, have had a decisive influence in Kiev and thus in the implementation of a xenophobic and Russophobic-oriented policy (more…)
