Sovereign Cuba
WE REAFFIRM OUR SOLIDARITY!
A few months ago, on our own initiative, we collected signatures from figures in the scientific, political, artistic, and intellectual communities—leaders with deep humanistic commitments—to issue a strong global protest against the U.S. blockade of Cuba, which has been in place for over sixty years. In Argentina, the femicides of Agostina Vega, Dulce, and Noelia, along with the rise in hate crimes against LGBTQ people, expose the lack of public policies and gender perspective within the branches of government. In response to these setbacks, human rights defenders are taking to the Buenos Aires streets. (more…)

This morning during the busy commute on the east side of the San Francisco Bay, thousands of vehicles drove under a banner demanding no war on Cuba. People in hundreds of those cars, weary of Trump’s wars and threats of new ones, honked in support. This banner drop was organized by the Richmond – Regla Friendship Committee and is part of a week of actions called by the No War on Cuba Campaign of the National Network on Cuba. (more…)

Comments circulating on social media raise uncomfortable questions: What would happen if the United States were subjected for weeks to an oil blockade similar to the one it imposes on Cuba? What would happen if its hospitals depended on generators with limited fuel, if cold chains collapsed, if water treatment plants shut down, if cell towers went silent, if a major city were left without electricity, without communications, without digital payments, and without basic services?
