In the morning, representatives of different organizations and social sectors gave powerful messages highlighting the importance of Venezuela in the struggles against capitalism and for emancipation. There were even those who defined it as “the backbone of the world’s struggles”. The speech of the Venezuelan ambassador to Cuba and national coordinator of the CBPM, Adán Chávez, who made an important diagnosis of the current world situation and pointed out some of the points to be reflected upon during the congress, stood out.
Later, the members of the CBPM met in working groups to discuss topics such as the production and acquisition of vaccines against covid-19, the global crisis of capitalism, neoliberalism and new models of coexistence, political systems and progressivism in the world, military plans and imperialist expansionism, as well as historical memory, peoples’ resistance and alternative and community media and counter cultural hegemony.
In the late afternoon, dozens of international delegates visited the January 22nd Pioneer Camp, a popular, self-managed and participatory housing project. There, the residents joyfully recounted their organizational process, stressing that no people can be free if there is no self-management. They also explained the importance of their project and how Commander Hugo Chávez always supported processes such as theirs, thus betting on popular power: “Let’s build, let’s organize the popular movement”, chanted the members of the camp as they received their international visitors.
