Cuba Thanks Venezuela for Offer to Help in Rebuilding after the Matanzas Fire

Maduro honoring Venezuelan firefighters who had been in Cuba

Today Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his gratitude to his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, who earlier had announced that his nation will support the reconstruction of the crude oil storage tanks that caught fire after being struck by lightning in the western province of Matanzas.

Through his Twitter account, the Cuban president also reiterated his gratitude to the Venezuelan specialized personnel who arrived right after the accident took place to work side by side with their Cuban counterparts to put out collaborated in mitigating the large-scale fires at the supertanker base. “Together again, we will recover what the fire took,” he stressed.

The day before, Maduro had instructed the authorities of the Venezuelan Ministry of Petroleum to carry out the corresponding coordination to support the restoration of the industrial area destroyed in Matanzas.

“Under no circumstances will the Caribbean country be alone, and it will always be able to count on the support of the peoples of the world and of sensitive, courageous and humanist governments”, said the President during a ceremony to decorate the firefighters and experts of the state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) who participated in the extinguishing of the fire.

During the event President Maduro presented the replica of the victorious saber of Carabobo and the Order Francisco de Miranda in its Second Class Precursor to 43 firefighters and experts who had just returned from Cuba.
