“He was in the wrong place, at the wrong time,” assassin Luis Posada Carriles would say with astonishing tranquility to a journalist some time after the criminal act.
Twenty-five years ago, the young Italian Fabio Di Celmo died in Havana as a victim of one of the numerous terrorist acts that Carriles and other notorious assassins, mostly based in Florida and trained by the CIA, carried out until their death against Cuba and against anyone who maintained relations with the country where they were “mistakenly” born.
Di Celmo was the most painful consequence of the chain of attacks that the Cuban-American National Foundation financed, and Posada Carriles organized, to try to stop the flow of tourists to Cuba, when the country was beginning to find ways out of the depths of the Special Period to which it had been plunged as a result of the fall of the USSR and the socialist camp.
Together with the blockade, terrorism has been the weapon most used by the counterrevolution and its mentors in Washington to try to confront the Cuban Revolution. If the economic and financial asphyxiation did not make the government of the Caribbean nation explode, terrorism could give the final push to complete their imperial plans.
Thousands of acts have been carried out in these 63 years: bombings, bombs, Molotov cocktails, fires, viruses, attacks. Nothing has been lacking in the prolific anti-Cuban terrorist agenda. Batista, those trained by the CIA, the mafia, the CIA itself, foreign mercenaries; Washington has turned to all kinds of executors or has sponsored them in an attempt to achieve its objectives. All of Cuba, Miami, New York, Kingston, Madrid, Caracas, Barbados, Portugal, airplanes, hotels, travel agencies, embassies, solidarity organizations and many other places have witnessed lethal acts of hatred against this nation, when the “anti-communist warriors” decided to go out and “wage war on the roads of the world”.
Posada died, Bosch died, dozens of the mercenaries of the Bay of Pigs died; but the cursed legacy of terrorism continues to be nurtured in the anti-Cuban den in Miami.
Now the plans are not mostly as secret as before, but are encouraged and emblazoned from the social networks. But it still calls to set fire to places, throw Molotov cocktails, attack authorities and diplomats, destroy archives, stores and even schools, and money is offered to the vile perpetrators of such acts. Those who show their solidarity with Cuba are also attacked in their countries, as they have just done with the Cubainformación collective in the Basque Country. Ultrack, Yamila, Otaola are the names of some of the new capos of the anti-Cuban terrorism, although they only make the calls and pay from far away from the fire, as true spokesmen of the digital social networks.
The terrorists of the past and the present are united by hatred, vileness, contempt for an entire people, and the tolerance and encouragement of the imperial government. They are also united by the condemnation of history.
