Bolivia: Arce Calls for Reinforcing  the Unity of the Electoral Victory of 2020

March 20, 2023

From the Congress of the National Confederation of Indigenous Peasant Women of Bolivia – Bartolina Sisa, President Luis Arce called to reissue the unity of social organizations and the political instrument that gave the victory in the 2020 elections, at a time when the national right “begins to raise its head” and the international right is interested in our natural resources.

In the meeting held in Tarija, Petro assured that the national right wing “is starting to raise its head”, while from abroad the international right wing “turned its eyes back on Bolivia” for its more than 21 million tons of lithium reserves, in the Uyuni salt flat alone.

“It is very important to have a healthy and open debate. We must not be afraid of differences, but we must know how to reach a confluence”, he reflected and reminded that what happened in the triumph in the 2020 elections must be reedited, which was possible because “we did it all together, all together we won, unity, sisters Bartolinas, unity”.

In the elections of October 20, 2020, the MAS-IPSP binomial, Luis Arce and David Choquehuanca, won in the first round with 55.11%, a total of 3,394,052 votes, and won the Presidency of Bolivia, after nearly a year of a de facto government characterized by acts of corruption and repression of social sectors.

Echoing this electoral victory, Arce assured that unity is “the only guarantee to move forward (and) the only guarantee we Bolivians have that these hopes for a better future can be consolidated”.

He warned about the presence of “foreign and national interests to divide” the social organizations, however, he warned that “we will not allow it” and predicted that the affiliates of the Confederation “will come out strengthened and united in a monolithic vision to take care of their Government and the Process of Change” we have initiated.

“You, our social organizations, the alma mater of our process, the owners of our Instrument, the social organizations, we are sure that with that maturity you will arrive, you will contribute and will continue to lead the destinies of our country”, he affirmed.

The executive secretary of the Federation of Native Indigenous Peasant Women Bartolina Sisa of Tarija, Jenny Guarayo, stressed the need to maintain the unity of the social organizations and called to remember how the MAS-IPSP managed to advance since the 80s.

Guarayo reiterated that the “The Movement to Socialism (MAS) was born like the rainbow and the wiphala, it is not going to die because we are going to strengthen it”,.

She accused the international right wing of trying to destabilize the Political Instrument and the country, while calling on everyone to defend the national government.
