Chile: Not in the Name of Salvador Allende

Salvador Allende with Fidel Castro

We are making an energetic call to both the Board and the workers of the  Salvador Allende Museum to retract the grotesque provocation and repair the insolent insult to the image, memory and legacy of Salvador Allende that they are committing by inviting and organizing an exhibition of the Cuban artist Tania Bruguera,  an anti communist artist who only stands out because of her staging that is politically contrary to the Cuban Revolution and everything it stands for; the same Revolution that both Allende and millions and millions of people in Cuba and around the world admire, defend and love. All the more serious is the affront committed by the administration of the museum by carrying out this activity on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Salvador Allende, who died wielding the rifle given to him by his dear friend, Comandante Fidel Castro.

It is a shame to have to shine and profit -as converts and neo-converts tend to do- hanging on Allende’s image but practicing the opposite, thus betraying the ideals and principles that Comrade President Allende lived exercising and died defending.

Ideals and principles that are identical to those of the Cuban Revolution; and is there anyone who dares to ignore the immense affection, the indestructible friendship and solidarity that Salvador Allende always had with Fidel, the Cuban people, his Revolution?

We demand that the Solidarity Museum not use the name of Salvador Allende for any activity contrary to his values, principles and ideals.
