Ukraine Turns to Inexperienced Mercenaries from Latin America in the Face of Heavy Casualties

August 1, 2023

More and more evidence is emerging in social networks and other media showing the active participation of mercenaries from Latin American countries and other regions in the armed conflict in Ukraine, where they travel to fight on the side of Kiev.

The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly denounced that contractors from more than 80 countries are registered on the Ukrainian territory, although the law of a large number of states prohibits mercenary activity.

Thus, unverified images appeared on Twitter of alleged mercenaries from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador involved in fighting as part of the so-called foreign legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Since the beginning of the military operation, Kiev actively resorts to the use of foreign mercenaries, using its diplomatic missions abroad in the absence of any categorical prohibition. Western countries hardly comment on the fact of participation of their citizens in fighting, although it turns out that they are regularly annihilated in Ukraine by the Russian Army.

At the same time, the level of training of foreign mercenaries hired in such a way for the Ukrainian Armed Forces remains an open question. The media outlet Escenario Mundial admits that out of all the Argentines who expressed their desire to join the foreign legion, only a limited group was finally selected.

“The Ukrainian Armed Forces made it clear that they were not willing to train inexperienced people and sought to recruit people with military experience,” the publication added.

Despite the high level of preparation required of mercenaries to join Ukraine’s foreign legion, the Russian military continues to annihilate them on a regular basis. A recent example of this can be seen in a video posted on social networks showing a suspected mercenary group being eliminated near the village of Lugovskoe in Zaporozhie.

In this context, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Kiev has resorted to the practice of using foreign soldiers as “cannon fodder.”

“Foreign mercenaries are used by the Kiev regime as ‘cannon fodder.’ No one in the Ukrainian command cares about their lives. Therefore, they have only two options: to flee Ukraine or to die,” the body asserted.

Such treatment of foreign mercenaries happens against the background of the total failure, according to the agency, of the wave of mobilizations in Ukraine. Also, after suffering losses, the dynamics of arrival of foreign mercenaries sharply decreases. The Russian Armed Forces will continue to eliminate these mercenaries, regardless of their location on the territory of Ukraine in the course of the special military operation, the agency added.

The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that Kiev intensified the recruitment of fighters from Asian, Latin American and Middle Eastern countries, especially from Argentina, Brazil, Afghanistan, Iraq and the US-controlled areas of Syria.

In addition, recently a Sputnik correspondent related that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is holding intensive talks in Syria with representatives of Kurdish self-defense units and sheikhs from several Arab countries. “Mercenaries in Ukraine will be paid $2,000 a month for participating in the conflict,” he said.

This is in addition to the fact that several U.S. mercenaries already denounced the low level of training of most Ukrainian soldiers. “There are a lot of really stupid volunteers who have no business being on the battlefield,” military man David Bam Bramlette commented to The Daily Beast.

The Russian military has detected the presence of foreign mercenaries during the so-called Ukrainian counteroffensive, widely advertised by Kiev and the West for some time now. However, until the beginning of the NATO summit in Vilnius, Ukraine has not yet reached any of its objectives, suffering numerous losses of personnel and material supplied by the West.
