This image precisely reflects the Argentine president’s discomfort and displeasure at having to interact—and be photographed!—with his Latin American counterparts.
While the others look relaxed and smiling, Javier Milei is clearly chewing on his annoyance, while longing for a photo with the genocidal Netanyahu or the neighborhood bully, Donald. If there is anyone in Argentina who does not have a shred of Latin American identity or vocation, it is Milei, a character with an astonishing ignorance of the challenges posed by the irreparable crisis of US hegemony, the flip side of which is the irresistible rise of the Global South.
Faced with this reality, Milei wants Argentina to leave Mercosur, dreaming that the White House will throw its doors wide open to Argentine products, making our country an exception to the fierce protectionism decreed by Trump. Blinded by his anarcho-capitalist ideology, Milei is happily jumps on the bandwagon of a declining power and refuses to incorporate Argentina into the BRICS, that is, into the future, ignoring the fact that their share of global GDP is already greater than that of the G7. That is why his displeasure is so well reflected in this memorable photograph.
