Cuba Reaffirms its Solidarity with Venezuela

Under the statue of Simón Bolívar that stands on Avenida de los Presidentes in Havana, a monument similar to the one in the Central Plaza of the city of Caracas, an entire people was gathered to support the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

More than fifty thousand Cubans, accompanied by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, members of the Political Bureau of the Party’s Central Committee, representatives of mass organizations, youth leaders, members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, the diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba, as well as delegates to the Third International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Leftist Parties and Movements, gathered to show their direct support and solidarity with the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which is facing an imminent and ongoing threat from the United States government, which, under the justification of combating drug trafficking, has carried out a massive military and naval deployment in Caribbean waters.

Pedro Infante Aparicio, vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela and president of the National Assembly, read a message of deep gratitude from  President Nicolás Maduro Moros’ to the Cuban nation stating the determination of both nations to fight to safeguard their independence. “We reaffirm that Cuba and Venezuela will continue to promote Latin American and Caribbean integration for the well-being of our peoples’ and the right to live in peace. There are no backyards here; we are sovereign, free, independent, and combative republics, willing to give our lives if necessary in defense of our countries and our peoples.”

Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, reaffirmed the commitment of the entire nation: “We defend Venezuela from here and from every collaborator who is part of the social missions that accompany its heroic people. Fighting alongside the Bolivarian people is, as the heroic guerrilla taught us in his most heartfelt words as a revolutionary: fighting against imperialism wherever it may be comforts and heals any wound.”

The event was full of symbols of unity and patriotism, where Cuba and its people ratified their commitment to always stand with the land of Bolívar and Chávez, which is also the land of Martí and Fidel. Proof of this was the Cuban president’s presentation to Infante Aparicio of a copy of the “Signature Book” collected by Cubans as a show of support for Venezuelans, which contains 4,388,759 Cubansignatures, headed by that of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz.

Art was present as a universal language, bringing us moments of joy with the performance of the children of the National Dance School who danced a joropo, the Entre Voces choir under the direction of Digna Guerra, the university theater group that recited the Latin American Our Father, the Cuban improvisers who delighted with their improvised and committed verse, as well as performances of emblematic songs such as “Venezuela” and “Latin America.”

Cuba thus joins the international condemnation of Washington’s desire to bring war to the Caribbean and South America with the clear objective of stealing Venezuela’s immense oil and gas wealth, while at the same time fulfilling its macabre dream of taking over the whole of America.
