Díaz-Canel Signs Book of Condolences for Khamenei’s Martyrdom

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Thursday to sign the Book of Condolences opened in honor of the leader of the Islamic Revolution, the martyr Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

“We feel deep pain and sorrow upon learning of the assassination of the Supreme Leader of the Iranian nation as a result of the vile aggression by the United States and Israel,” the president wrote.

The head of state also described the act as an expression of a flagrant violation of all norms of international law and human dignity.

“We will remember him as the outstanding statesman and leader of the Iranian people, who contributed decisively to the development and consolidation of relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries,” he added.

Díaz-Canel conveyed the deepest condolences of the Cuban people and government, which he extended to the supreme leader’s family, loved ones, and friends.

At the diplomatic headquarters, Díaz-Canel was received by Iranian Ambassador Zabihollah Naderi and was accompanied by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and the Director General of Bilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández.

Condemnation of the attacks against Iran

Following the February 28 attacks against Iran, Díaz-Canel denounced them on the X platform as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

He also pointed out that they frustrated diplomatic efforts on the nuclear issue and jeopardized regional and international peace and security.

On March 4, the president reiterated that “Cuba joins the international calls for an immediate end to the violation of international law.”

He condemned the political assassinations and indiscriminate attacks against Iran and Lebanon, which has caused the death of over a thousand people including ofchildren and is  a serious escalation in the Middle East.

Díaz-Canel warned that if this situation is not stopped, the consequences would be unpredictable for the peoples of the region and for international stability.

He reaffirmed Cuba’s position in favor of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, the cessation of human and material damage to civilian infrastructure, and the preservation of the principles of good neighborliness, moderation, and dialogue.
