Federal and local legislators, political and government authorities from the State of Mexico, and friends in attendance reaffirmed today in Toluca their support and solidarity with Cuba, representing the sentiments of the Mexican people, while chanting the slogans “Cuba is not alone” and “Cuba yes, Yankees no.”
Senator Higinio Martínez Miranda, leader of the “Mexiquenses de Corazón” group during its state congress, acknowledged the message from Governor Claudia Sheinbaum at the Summit in Defense of Democracy, where she reiterated the importance of continuing to defend Cuba.
The senator emphasized that “whatever happens to Cuba—the unjust blockade, the offensive by the U.S. government—is not only against Cuba, it is also against our country; that is why we must stand in solidarity.”
On behalf of the Municipal President of La Paz, in the State of Mexico, Martha Guerrero Sánchez, a statement was issued and approved by those present, condemning the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government, rejecting any attempt at military invasion against Cuba, and supporting the right of Cubans to freely decide their social project.
In her remarks, the mayor confirmed support for the legitimate and tireless struggle of the Cuban people and reaffirmed Mexico’s solidarity and absolute respect in all forums and without reservation.
She stated that “if we had to define Cuba in a single phrase, it would be that it is a great people, united in solidarity and with deep empathy on the international stage.” She condemned the criminal and unjust U.S. blockade and the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
She reaffirmed that “the friendship between Mexico and Cuba, very humble and very sincere, is founded on reciprocity.”
Cuba’s ambassador to Mexico, Eugenio Martínez Enríquez, who participated in the act of solidarity with Cuba as part of this congress, acknowledged that the Mexican president’s defense of Cuba “is a firm voice that defends the dignity of Latin America and the Caribbean, which defends not only Cuba, but the peoples and progressive ideas.”
He confirmed that Cubans “are suffering a crime being committed against Cuba—a ruthless and intensified blockade that we do not deserve, because the Cuban people are a people of solidarity and nobility who have never hesitated to help others.”
He expressed gratitude for the support shown to the Cuban people and reaffirmed that Cuba will not witness defeat because it knows the meaning of the word “resistance” and of never giving up. He confirmed that “we will defeat the empire and we will witness victory.”
