Bolivia Resists! Stop the Repression Against the Bolivian People

May 18, 2026

We at ALBA Movimientos denounce before Our America and the world the brutal repression unleashed by the government of Rodrigo Paz against the mobilized Bolivian people. The blood spilled in the streets of Bolivia is the direct responsibility of a government that, subservient to the interests of the business elites and U.S. imperialism, has decided to respond with violence to the legitimate demands of the people.

The days of general strikes, road blockades, and the peasant, indigenous, worker, and popular mobilizations sweeping Bolivia are not the result of “chaos” or a “conspiracy,” as the government and the mainstream media seek to portray. They are the direct consequence of a neoliberal and anti-popular project that seeks to privatize common goods, commodify land, hand over strategic resources, and shift the burden of the economic crisis onto the backs of working people.

We strongly condemn the murders, arbitrary detentions, and militarization promoted by the government of Rodrigo Paz. We demand an immediate end to the repression and denounce the complicit silence of international organizations and regional governments in the face of the violence perpetrated against the Bolivian people.

The Bolivian people are once again demonstrating to the continent their immense capacity for struggle, organization, and resistance. Bolivia has a long tradition of popular and anti-imperialist struggle. It is the indigenous peoples, peasants, miners, workers, and youth who have historically defended national sovereignty against foreign plunder and local oligarchies. Today, once again, the Bolivian people are rising up to defend their dignity and their right to build a sovereign and just country.

We also condemn the political persecution of comrade Evo Morales and of all the popular forces persecuted for defending the interests of the people. The judicialization of politics and the criminalization of popular struggles are part of a continental offensive driven by U.S. imperialism to discipline our peoples and destroy any project of Latin American sovereignty and integration. We see this in Bolivia, just as we see it in Argentina against Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and in Venezuela with the military attacks and the kidnapping of President Maduro and Congresswoman Cília Flores.

The government of Rodrigo Paz represents a project of conservative restoration subordinate to the interests of the United States, transnational corporations, and international financial institutions. The resumption of U.S. interference in Bolivia, the alignment with reactionary governments in the region, and the attack on popular gains are part of a continental strategy to recolonize Our America.

From ALBA Movimientos, we reaffirm our militant and internationalist solidarity with the Bolivian popular organizations that today face repression and sustain the struggle in the streets. We call on the popular forces, social movements, unions, youth groups, and political organizations of the continent to multiply actions of solidarity with Bolivia and to denounce the government’s violence internationally.

The struggle of the Bolivian people is the struggle of all of Our America. Because in the face of the advance of fascism, neoliberalism, and imperialism, the only way forward is more popular organization, more continental unity, and more struggle.

Long live the resistance of the Bolivian people!
