Johana Tablada stated that the U.S. has maintained the same policy against the island since 1959: to deprive it of revenue, impoverish the country, and hide from the world the achievements of the Revolution initiated by Fidel Castro.

The new U.S. sanctions against Cuba are a response to the failure of Washington’s policy against the largest island of the Antilles, stated Cuban diplomat Johana Tablada.

In an interview with BT News, she noted that Washington “portrays Cuba as a failed state and an unusual threat to justify acts of economic warfare, while maintaining the oil embargo that restricts the daily lives of many Cubans.”

She noted that the recent OFAC sanctions against Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, military and social institutions, as well as the charges against the Army General, “multiplies the dignity of the Cuban government and people.”

“Attacking the symbols of the revolution does not weaken Cuba: it confirms Washington’s impotence,” she asserted.

Furthermore, she highlighted the country’s achievements in the area of sovereignty over its electricity supply through the transition to renewable energy sources, prioritizing essential services.

She stated that Cuba is open to dialogue with the U.S. as long as the constitutional order, sovereignty, or decisions that belong to the Cuban people are not up for negotiation.

She also thanked the Mexican people and their president, Claudia Sheinbaum, for the expressions of solidarity sent to Cuba.
