The two presidential candidates who will face off in the runoff election on June 21 in Colombia will hold their respective campaign closing events this Sunday.

The candidate for the Progressive Movement Pacto Histórico, Iván Cepeda, will be in the municipality of Soledad, in the northern department of Atlántico, as previously announced by the candidate himself.

The day before, he addressed his supporters in the capital during a speech at Plaza Cultural Santamaría in the Santa Fe neighborhood.

In addition to urging his fellow citizens to turn out en masse to vote this coming Sunday, he reaffirmed that, should he become president, he will defend environmental protection policies and the rights of minorities, including ethnic communities.

“We will prevent fracking from ever taking place in Colombia—I assure you of that. We will protect the páramos, protect water sources, and protect the Amazon rainforest; we will continue President Gustavo Petro’s leadership as a country that defends nature. Our second administration will prioritize the communities that most need the state’s assistance and support in their regions,” he stated.

He also called on citizens to monitor the voting process to ensure it proceeds with the greatest possible transparency.

“Everyone to the polls early—we need tens of thousands of witnesses to closely monitor that not a single vote we have obtained lawfully and through our efforts on election day is taken from us,” he urged.

His opponent, far-right candidate Abelardo De la Espriella, will wrap up his campaign this Sunday in the southwestern department of Valle del Cauca.

He will visit the Minor Basilica of the Lord of Miracles in the municipality of Buga to attend, as he stated, a healing mass.

He will then deliver a speech to his supporters in that community.

Ahead of the runoff election, more than 40 million Colombians are once again called to the polls, of whom 1,414,000 will exercise their right to vote abroad.
